I'M
just a dumb new shakuhachi fan - teaching myself how to play this amazing
instrument of all instruments! AND
- hopefully - teaching myself how to build a really great shakuhachi or
two or three or four or . . . ! BUT
this site has something for everyone who loves the sound of peace. JUST
click on any of the links on the left here, and enjoy the ride! |
And
this is the man who started the shakuhachi.
And
Zen. And you and me. And everything we so lovingly proclaim and
adore:
|
|
Roan.
The first komuso. In
honor of his shakuhachi (or hitoyogiri), he called himself "Fuketsu
dosha," the "Person of the Way of the Wind and
Holes." (I'm changing my name next week!) He
also was the founder of the komuso temple in Kyoto, Myoanji or Meianji,
and the same person also known as Kyochiku Zenji. My
hero! This
painting of Roan is on a scroll done by a friend of Roan's, Khokei or Kei
Shoki, a priest at the temple Kenchoji, during the Muromachi period, and
it is dated 1477. The unsurpassed majesty and heraldry
and infinite simplicity of Roan and the bamboo shakuhachi! This
is why they are my choice!

My

I've
already ordered a second one!

And here
is my happy little collection of flutes. How do you like the huge clear
PVC shakuhachi on the top (I haven't cut in the finger holes yet)? Three
of the flutes are transverse, side-blown, as you can see. Plus there's the
pan flute . . . .

AND
THIS
IS THE REAL ME, sitting in my back yard, in north central Florida, casting
an ancient Japanese magic shakuhachi spell
over the primordial and enchanting
SUWANNEE RIVER.
This is enlightenment, dear heart!
This
is shakuhachi living! |
